Within the working visit of GCAA to People’s Republic of China, the delegation of the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency has met with representatives of China’s Civil Aviation Administration (CAAC). By the invitation of the hosting party the enlarged meeting was also attended by the leading Chinese airlines such as “Air China”, “Hainan Airlines”, “China Southern Airlines” and “China Eastern Airlines”.

The sides discussed deepening of bilateral relations between the two countries in the field of civil aviation and the prospects for future cooperation. As CAAC officials noted Georgia is becoming more and more attractive for Chinese airlines after the two countries have enhanced political and trade-economic relations. The civil aviation authorities of China and Georgia have agreed to cooperate closely on matters within their competence to promote establishing the new flights as well as business activities in civil aviation sector of Georgia.

During the visit the agency representatives updated the CAAC and Chinese Airlines about the Georgian aviation market development tendencies, liberal aviation legislative framework and results of the ICAO audit that are the contributing factors to increase air traffic in Georgia.

At the meeting it was announced that as a result of one-month negotiations between the civil aviation agency of Georgia and “China Southern Airlines”, the Chinese airline has taken decision to appoint a new flight destination to Georgia. Namely, the air carrier will regularly fulfill Beijing-Urumqi-Tbilisi air service from September 22, 2016.

It should be noted that this was the first visit of the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency delegation at China's Civil Aviation Administration. During the enlarged meeting the Georgian Side has accepted an official invitation to the Urumci aviation forum in August 2016, while by invitation of the GCAA, the Chinese Aviation Administration high officials will pay visit to Georgia in the nearest future.
